Hey everyone! I'm Margaret and here to write about all things music and music business. I study music business at Columbia College Chicago. The purpose of this blog is to write about new music, old music, and music industry news and issues. I am open to new ideas and any topic within the scope of music is fair game. Here we go!

Hey there!

So I wanted to write today about the news we’ve been hearing about Beyonce infringing the copyright of choreographer, Anne De Keersmaeker. Beyonce’s music video for “Countdown” shows choreography that is more than similar to that of Keersmaeker’s ballet, “Rosas danst Rosas.” Beyonce describes how Keersmaker’s ballet was an influence, but it is clear that she deliberately copied a significant amount of her choreography. It isn’t fair because Beyonce and her directors knew that most people would not recognize the choreography so therefore did not get any permission to use it or even pay tribute to Keersmaeker. In the following article, The case is described in more detail and it also includes a video detailing the similarities between Beyonce’s video and Keersmaeker’s ballet. Let me know what you think!
